Photography Coursework
Photoshoot 9
This is the photoshoot that I did during my timed mock exam. Since I enjoyed taking slow shutter speed images I decided to carry on experimenting with these and make a final piece out of them for my coursework. For a final piece I am thinking to display them in the theatre all around the room. I will use a successful photo or a range of photos from all of the shoots where I have concentrated on slow shutter speed. I think this will have a creative effect and it is more interesting to look at than just a normal A4 print. For this shoot I had my model wear a flowery skirt, which was floaty so that when she moved around I could capture how the skirt looked. I also chose this skirt because it is very colourful and I enjoy looking at the images when they are more that one colour because all of the different colours blend together.
Image Analysis
My first impressions of this photo are that it is part of a horror film. I think the fact that my models head is more blurred than the rest of her body is very effective and portrays the idea that she is maybe possessed. I did this technique by really slowing down the shutter speed on my camera and then getting my model to only move her head from side to side. Obviously the rest of your body cant stay completely still so her body is also showing movement but not as much as her head. I decided to turn the image to black and white basically because my model was wearing a very colourful outfit and this didn’t fit it with what the picture showed. The colours used emphasise the theme even more and help the audience to see that the models head looks like it is spinning. I think the composition of the photo also works well, my model is just stood it a very basic position and this contrasts with her head movements. Her shoulders look rather tense and this is exactly how they would be if your head was spinning.
Image Analysis
This image is the opposite of the previous one. The colours used are very vibrant and portray a happy atmosphere. My first impression of this one wood be that my model looks slightly like a carousel. This is because when I have slowed the shutter speed right down, I got my model to spin really fast and she was wearing a floaty skirt so when she spun her skirt expanded out and went in waves. The skirt included green, pink orange and white so when she has spun all the colours have blended together and made an orangey colour. This is why it reminds me of a carousel because they are always brightly lit up. By my models movement I can sense that she is happy just because of where her head is and how her hands are lifted up. This again reminds me of a fair because a lot of the time they make people happy and excited. I like the fact that I have captured my models hair in different parts of her movement because this is again what would happen if you were on a carousel. I think this image would have looked impressive if it was taken out side because fairs are usually set up on a big field or an area with a lot of grass. The black background contrasts with the colourful outfit, which my model is wearing, which make her stand out even more.
