6th Photoshoot

With this photo shoot I chose to do a Halloween theme because it was that time of the year. Overall I think this shoot has worked well, it does create a mysterious, scary atmosphere. I focused on spiders, to show this i painted a spider web onto my subjects face using black eyeliner so that the lines were thick and attract attention. I then drew a spider body down the middle of my models nose so that it was obvious the theme was spiders. Her lips where painted black so that it look like she had been poisoned by some sort of poison, which is common on this annual night. I finished the makeup off by adding a twist so that the images weren’t just what people expect of Halloween. I added a dark purple glitter to my models lips and nose onto of her spider body. This just made the shoot more provocative. To keep on top of the theme I bought some cotton wool and plastic spiders. I spread the cotton wool out and then interlined it through and around my models body. By spreading it out it made it look like cob webs which is something that is significantly associated with these insects. The model also wrapped the cotton wool in and around her fingers to use it as a prop. This allowed her to pose with the props and make the images more surreal. After the cobweb was finished, I added the little plastic spiders. I positioned these in visible places so that you could clearly see what they were. The white cotton wool contrasted with the black dress that my model was wearing, as they are both completely different tones. When I was doing this shoot I was unsure what colour background to use because I was using both black and white colours. Due to this I decided to use both because either way they both fitted in with the theme. Looking back at the photos now I think the black background worked better because it created a scarier atmosphere. On the other hand the light was more effective when I used the white background. You cant really tell what the images look like, but these are shown more clearly on the 'contact sheet' page. A down side of using the white background is that you are able to see all of the shadows. When i moved my model forward the shadow did get lighter but then she was too close to the flash so you were unable to see all the detail on her face, which is what i am mainly focusing on. With the black sometimes it was too dark and others too light it just depended what position the model was in. The composition of the subject is very satisfying, in every photo she is positioned in a different, which, this makes the shoot more exciting and therefore the audience will want to look at it more. The fact that props are involved also makes the shoot stand out from my previous ones. Due to this I would like to use more props in the future. I varied the angles of my photos in this shoot as well. Some are zoomed in, I did these was purely so you could see the detail on her face clearly. Full body, these ones were took so that you could see the props and how they are being used in the photos. The final ones are the ones where my model is looking down, these ones fit in most with Halloween as they make the model look deadly. Overall believe this is my most developed and successful shoot out of them all so far, and in the future I want to keep incorporating props into my themes so that my shoots are always exciting.

Image Analysis
I have chosen to display this image as one of my better images because I believe it is successful and it is my favourite image from this particular shoot. I like the compostion the most in this photograph, I think it fits in well with the theme and portrays the purpose effectively. The fact that she is looking away from the camera makes the image that bit more interesting. She has quite a confused/gormless look of her face. This gives of the impression that she is focussing on something she can see and it seems like it has got her in a trance, I think this works well because it creates a mysterious atmosphere which is what Halloween is all about. From the makeup and the accessories you can instantly tell that the model and the theme is spider related. The fact that I have used cobwebs and plastic spiders make the shoot a lot more interesting in my opinion. The black background in this photo fits in with the halloween theme because it gets darker earlier on that night and thats when all the mysteries appear. It also makes the cobwebs stand out as they are white and therefore wouldnt be seen if a white background was to be used. To do the facepaint I just used a thin back eyeliner and then drew a cobweb, but I did it in a slightly different way. Instead of starting with a circle and making my way out, I drew the cobweb around my models facial features so the final piece looks more like a portrait photo.I then  added a little bit of purple glitter to the spiders body and my models lips to make her look more feminine. If i were to do this photoshoot again I would make sure all her every day accessories were taken off, such as her watch and bobble. This is because those little things takes away the effectivness from the theme.
